The majority of mining and metal companies in Ukraine have been on the verge of bankruptcy since 2014, which they managed to avoid only thanks to the devaluation of the national currency and the improved competitiveness of Ukrainian products on foreign markets, Metinvest CEO Yuriy Ryzhenkov said.
In the first quarter of 2015 Ukrainian companies produced 245.9 thousand tons of ferroalloys, down by 5.5% YoY.

International vertically integrated mining and steel group Metinvest, owned by Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Akhmetov, has defaulted on its debt obligations, and the company is now in talks with its creditors, according to a company press release.
In January-March Ukraine exported 1830.14 thousand tons of carbon steel semi-finished products, down by 33.7% YoY. Or down by 46.7%, to $703.7 million.
