The blast furnace No. 4 of Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works has produced the 85-millionth ton of pig iron. This is the second largest blast furnace in Severstal volume-wise.

The furnace was first blown on March 27, 1969. The first pig iron was produced on March 29, 1969.

The volume of the furnace is 2.7 thousand cubic meters, and the capacity – 1.8 million tons per year. At the time of commissioning it was the largest blast furnace not only in the Soviet Union, but also in Europe.

In December 1995 the furnace was shut down, but 10 years later, on December 18, 2005 it was blown again after reconstruction.

After the reconstruction the furnace capacity was increased to 2.2-2.3 million tons of pig iron per year.

In March 2019 the blast furnace No. 4 nicknamed Vologzhanka will turn 60. (Ukrainian metal)
