For the past 10 years Severstal has decreased the volume of industrial wastes at Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works by 58%.
The decrease has to do with the sale of secondary products. This helps decrease the volume of industrial wastes, accumulated at the landfill.
At present the company sells over 20 types of wastes. Last year it sold 13 thousand tons of polyethylene, plastics, transporter belt, pallets, cardboard, etc.
Each year CherMK accumulates around 6.5 million tons of various wastes, of which 75% are processed (slag, scrap, etc.), some 20% are used as raw materials (dust, slurry), 2% is given to other companies (mercury lamps, accumulators, etc.), and 3% is placed on the industrial wastes landfill.
