Since commissioning of its blast furnace No. 1 Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works has produced 55 million tons of pig iron.

The blast furnace was blown in 1955. On August 24, 1955, the first pig iron was produced, and a new plant was born.

In 2008 the blast furnace was shut down due to the drop in demand. The work was resumed in summer 2009.

Now the BF1 provides for some 12% of CherMK pig iron output.

Its volume is 1007 cubic meters, and the capacity – 1.1 million tons of pig iron per year. (Ukrainian metal)
