Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works has produced the first coke at the coke-oven battery No. 4 after its reconstruction.
“The completion of the main stage of the coke-oven battery No. 4 reconstruction valued at 6 billion rubles opens a long-term program to renew capacities of CherMK coke-and-sinter manufacture. The new machine will mainly operate on blast furnace gas, which will allow for better temperature regulation, and thus obtaining a better quality coke”, Severstal CEO Alexander Shevelyov said.
The coke output will increase from 420 thousand tons to 460 thousand tons per year, while dust emissions will drop.
The coke-oven battery No. 4 was shut down for repairs on May 2, 2017. The disassembly of the old machine and the construction of the new battery lasted for 17 months and 14 days. (Ukrainian metal)
