Interpipe notes the minimal shortage of scrap in winter on the local market, but forecasts the worsening of the situation in spring.
“The market will still feel shortage. The seasonal growth of steel manufacture will start in April, winter stocks of scrap will run low, and the shortage of the raw material will be felt”, Interpipe CFO Denis Morozov said, adding that the company was still importing scrap from Russia.
When asked about imports of scrap from Moldova, he said, that at present Moldova itself was the importer of scrap.
“Moldova Iron and Steel Works has reached its full capacity, and immediately became one of the main buyers of raw materials from Ukraine. The exports of scrap to Moldova are now the biggest threat for our market. Turkey buys the same volumes, but MMZ has increased imports to 40-45 thousand tons per month, on par with scrap purchases by, say, Interpipe or AMKR”, Morozov said. (Ukrainian metal)
