Interpipe has started importing scrap from Moldova.
“We import scrap from Russia and from Moldova. These are just trial batches, of around several tons. But I expect scrap imports to increase in future. There are no other options”, Interpipe finances and economy director Denis Morozov said.
According to him, if scrap is imported from other countries, then with transshipment at the ports and delivery to the works the price will be too high.
“Moreover Ukrainian seaports are not suited to transship large volumes of scrap. This results in our billets, produced from such raw materials, being more expensive than the Russian billets”, he said. “Buying scrap from Europe is hindered by the differences in the railroad: scrap has to be unloaded and loaded into other wagons again. Belarus has almost no scrap. It has enough only for its own metal works”. (Ukrainian metal)
