The Irshansky GOK Branch of JSC United Mining and Chemical Company (UMCC) presented, for the identification, collection and consideration of comments and suggestions from the public, a Report on the assessment of the environmental impact of the planned activity, which consists in cutting down forest stands (forest clearings) for geological exploration work with the aim of geological study of titanium ores of the Selyshchansky site of the subsoil of the Korosten district of the Zhytomyr region.
The exploration of titanium ores is planned to be carried out on the border of the Malyn and Irshansky communities.
In administrative terms, the site is located between the villages of Sychivka and Zabrane of the Malyn community, as well as the village of Shershni and the village of Irshansk of the Irshan community.
The corresponding announcement was published on April 8 on the website of the Malyn City Council and in the Unified Register of Environmental Impact Assessment (case No. 14533).
According to the report, it is planned to cut down 66 forest clearings with a total length of over 68 km. Their approximate area is about 41 hectares (the total area of the Selishchansk site is 1857 hectares).
It is planned to drill 1623 exploratory, 30 verification (control) and 20 hydrogeological wells.
The total duration of the field stage will be about 26 months.
After completion of the works, reclamation is planned – filling of wells and restoration of soil cover.
The public discussion will last for 25 working days. Anyone interested can submit comments and suggestions without mandatory justification. (Nadra)
