The Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals forecasts that this year procurement of ferrous scrap will amount to 1.45-1.65 million tons, down by 5-17% YoY.
Last year, Ukraine procured 1.75 million tons of scrap, up by 37%.
“We expect the problems we experienced last year to aggravate this year,” the association chairman Vladimir Bublei has said.
Among them are the martial law, mobilization, weak domestic demand, limited export opportunities, etc.
Last year, scrap deliveries to domestic market increased almost by 30%, to 1.34 million tons.
Scrap reserves at metal plants are estimated at 50 thousand tons.
The association expects scrap consumption to decrease this year to 1.1-1.2 million tons due to the drop in steel manufacture.
Exports grew by 60%, to 293 thousand tons, while this year they could further increase by 20%, to 350 thousand tons. (Ukrainian metal)
