A business meeting between representatives of British engineering, technology and consulting companies and Kumtor Gold Company CJSC was held in Bishkek on September 14. The event was organized by the British Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The meeting brought together companies specializing in geological exploration, mineral processing, tailings and water resource management, geotechnical studies, environmental safety and the production of mining equipment.
During the meeting, British companies presented their technologies and industry solutions and discussed opportunities for their application in Kumtor Gold Company’s operations, as well as prospects for further cooperation.
As part of the business program, Daniel Maniiazov, an expert at the International Business Council, presented information on Kyrgyzstan’s investment climate and recent developments in the mining sector.
The presentation covered the country’s mineral resource base, operating deposits, licensing system, investment trends and the development of the critical minerals sector. Particular attention was paid to the conditions needed to attract long-term investment and implement new projects.
According to official data, Kyrgyzstan has 1,020 registered deposits containing reserves of 51 types of minerals. As of August 28, 2026, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision’s Unified Electronic Subsoil Use Licensing Register contained 1,975 active licenses.
At the same time, investment activity in the mining industry has increased significantly. According to the National Statistical Committee, foreign direct investment in the economic activity «Mining and quarrying» amounted to $246.3 million in 2025, compared with $109.7 million a year earlier. The figure therefore increased approximately 2.2-fold.
Participants also reviewed opportunities outlined in Kyrgyzstan’s Critical Minerals Sector Development Program through 2030. Investment potential includes not only mining, but also geological exploration, laboratory research, processing technologies, equipment supplies, energy and logistics.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of predictable regulation, transparent licensing procedures, modern infrastructure and responsible environmental management in turning the country’s geological potential into sustainable investment projects.
Following the meeting, the parties discussed possible areas of cooperation, the application of modern technological solutions in Kyrgyzstan’s mining sector and prospects for implementing new investment projects. (24.kg)
