In 2019, stainless steel consumption in Russia increased by 27 tons YoY, to 497807 tons. Compared with 2017 the result grew by 5.5%.

In Q1 2019 stainless steel consumption went up by 0.8% YoY, in Q2 it decreased by 6.7%, in Q3 – by 0.5%, but in Q4 grew by 6.4%.

Flat cold-rolled metal consumption dropped by 8.8% and primary billets – by 17.9%. At the same time consumption of flat hot-rolled metal increased by 22.2%, pipe billets – by 11% and wire – by 24.7%.

Imported products accounted for 73.9% and domestic – 26.1% (77.2% and 22.8% in 2018 respectively).

The most import-depending sectors of stainless steel consumption were flat cold-rolled metal – 97.3% (98.4% in 2018), wire – 90.8% (89.3%), flat hot-rolled metal – 72.7% (82%), seamless pipes – 67.9% (59.6%) and primary billets – 55.4% (62.9%).

The share of imports of electric welded pipes was 44.9% (46.9%), shapes – 36.5% (35.3%) and pipe billets – 22.3% (23%). (Ukrainian metal)
