Stainless steel consumption in 2018 grew by 5.8% YoY, to 499.2 thousand tons. In 2017 the growth was 13.9%.
Local production of stainless steel last year totaled 121,846 tons, up by 2.1%.
In particular, Russia produced 22,483 tons of flat rolled steel, with Krasniy Octyabr accounting for some 56%.
Bars output reached 55,954 tons (ZEMZ – 39%, Krasniy Octyabr – 29% and Izhstal – 20%).
Russia also produced 15,166 tons of seamless pipes (PNTZ – 49%, TMK-Inox – 22%, VTZ – 21% and ChTPZ – 8%) and 25,047 tons of electric-welded pipes (Rusinox – 29%, Marchegaglia RU – 22%).
Stainless steel exports last year grew by 17.2%, to 8043 tons, with imports at 385.4 thousand tons, up by 7.2%. (Ukrainian metal)
