A number of foreign investors have shown their interest in constructing copper-smelting facilities.
According to the acting Prime Minister Nicol Pashinyan, such a project is very important for the country, as it will allow processing ore on the spot, without exporting it. At the same time, the finished products could find their customers not only abroad, but in Armenia as well.
The government has been mulling the construction of a copper plant since mid-2000, but because of the financial crisis of 2008-2009, it had to be abandoned. The construction cost was estimated at $150 million. (Ukrainian metal)
