Production of gold at Makmal field in Jalal-Abad region has been suspended, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Kubatbek Boronov declared.
The press service of Kyrgyzaltyn OJSC confirmed the information. The gold recovery plant has suspended its work since September 1. The mineral resource base of the mine is completely depleted, so further work is economically unprofitable.
“In terms of extraction of minerals, Makmalzoloto company should be closed in 2013 as unprofitable. But because of its high social importance for the entire Toguz-Toro district, it existed at the expense of the profits of other branches. Production was stopped on September 1 at least 593 out of 924 jobs have been cut. Fired workers will get appropriate compensation. Until the end of 2018 Kyrgyzaltyn plans to hold a tender for additional exploration of the field, processing of tailings and dumps of Makmalzoloto,” press service of Kyrgyzaltyn stressed.
Makmal is the oldest and the first gold deposit in Kyrgyzstan. It was launched in 1986. According to technical and economic calculations, ore was planned to be mined within ten years. But so far this particular mine is the main asset of Kyrgyzaltyn state enterprise. (24.kg/Ukrainian metal)
