In January-July Kazakhstan mined 144.1 billion tenge worth of ore, up by 57% YoY.

Kostanay and Karaganda regions yielded the most – 128.1%, up by 54.7% YoY, or 88.9% of the total volume, and 14 million tenge, up by 78.4%, or 9.7% of the total respectively.

ArcelorMittal Temirtau was the largest contributor in both regions. The company is also present in Akmolinskaya region.

Another giant of the Kostanay region is the Sokolovsko-Sarbayskoye Mining and Processing Manufacturing Enterprise, a part of Eurasian Resources Group (ERG).

Processing sector also demonstrates growth: ferrous metals manufacture increased by 46.6% YoY, to 867.5 billion tenge. Karaganda region is leading with 355.7 billion tenge, up by 29.4% YoY. The region produces pig iron, steel and ferroalloys.

Iron ore output increased by 11.2%, to 22.39 million tons, including 6.08 million tons of iron ore concentrate, up by 2.1%.

Ferroalloys manufacture grew by 11.9% YoY, to 1.15 million tons, including ferrochromium by 12.8% and ferrosilicomanganese by 18.5%.

Raw steel output went up by 10%, to 2.69 million tons, with unalloyed steel up by 10.1%, and alloyed steel down by 17.1%.

Flat rolled metal production increased by 4.1%, rods of unalloyed steel for construction by 10.7% and of alloyed steel by 44.6%. Steel sections and angles output grew 3.2-fold.

In H1 Kazakhstan exported 4.42 million tons of iron ore, up by 6.8% YoY, valued at $260.4 million, up by 38.4%.

Flat rolled metal exports totaled 1.25 million tons, up by 9.2%, valued at $717.5 million, up by 56.3%. Ferroalloys exports reached 735 thousand tons, up by 13.6%, valued at $1.16 billion, up by 85.2%. (Ukrainian metal)
