Russia: metal and mining products Far Eastern railroad throughput up in March 2019

In March, Far Eastern Railroad transported 4.27 million tons of cargo, up by 1.8% YoY.

In particular, iron and manganese ore transportation grew by 9.3%, to 533 thousand tons, and metal wares – by 22.4%, to 290 thousand tons.

At the same time transportation of coal decreased by 5.8%, to 4.596 million tons. (Ukrainian metal)

Russia: PGK Novosibirsk subsidiary increases ferrous metals transportation

Ukraine: gas and electricity consumption down in January 2019

In January Ukrainian metal companies decreased natural gas consumption by 3% MoM and by 8% YoY.

In December 2018 gas consumption grew by 13% MoM, to 170 million cubic meters.

Electricity consumption in January was 1.01 billion kW-h, down by 1% MoM and by 6% YoY. (Ukrainian metal)

Ukraine: metal companies start increasing jobs

In H2 2018 the number of people employed in metal industry grew by 0.5%, to 189.7 thousand people.

According to the State Statistics Service, average salary in the industry increased by 29% last year, to 12.496 thousand UAH.

Metal companies also paid a lot of taxes, becoming major taxpayers. (Ukrainian metal)

Russia: Kuzbass region metal and mining railroad transportation up in January 2019

In January the West-Siberian Railroad transported 22 million tons of cargo in Kuzbass region, up by 5% YoY.

In particular, the transportation of coal grew by 3.5%, to 19 million tons.

The railroad also transported 775 thousand tons of iron ore (+49%) and 547 thousand tons of ferrous metals (+2.7%). (Ukrainian metal)

In 2018 Ukrainian metal enterprises consumed some 1.84 billion cubic meters of natural gas, up by 4% YoY.

In December 2018, gas consumption grew by 13% MoM, to 170 million cubic meters.

Russia: major metal companies extensively firing employees

In 2013-2017 the major metal companies have been seriously decreasing the number of their employees.

In particular, Evraz fired 40 thousand people, and Severstal – some 10 thousand.

In November Ukrainian metal companies increased natural gas consumption by 7% MoM, to 150 million cubic meters.

In 11 months consumption grew by 6%, to 1670 million cubic meters.
