Chukotka has been decreasing gold output lately. The local authorities believe this is because of the thinning of gold deposits.

In 2016 the region obtained 29.184 tons of gold, down by 9.17% YoY.

“We are settling issues with new projects. We’re constructing electricity lines. We are prepared to work at the Kupol deposits, and at the Moroshka deposits, that we have shortly put into operation. There will also be the Sentyabrskoye deposits”, the regional governor Roman Kopoin said.

According to him, the region cannot keep up with the constant level of gold mining.

“It was high – 30 tons. But on average we will provide 27 tons. Our task is to stay in the range of 25-30 tons, and that would be a good result for Chukotka”, he added. (Ukrainian metal)
