The blast furnace No. 5 Severyanka of Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works has produced the 120-millionth ton of pig iron.

The BF was first blown in on April 12, 1986, and the first pig iron was produced on April 13. For the next 20 years Severyanka has been the largest furnace in the world and even made it to the Guinness World Records.

CherMK coke-sinter-blast furnace manufacture comprises of 4 blast furnaces. Severyanka, the largest blast furnace in Europe, covers 50% of the works needs in pig iron. Its project capacity is 4 million tons per year. (Ukrainian metal)
