The Mogilev-based steel mill MMZ has started shipping rough-forged railway axles to Russia, Valery Fishman, Head of the Central Office for Innovations and Investments of the Belarusian Industry Ministry, reported on 30 March.

According to the source, two significant projects have been implemented by the Belarusian Metallurgical Company lately. The first one is the production of rough-forged axles for railway transport by the Mogilev-based steel mill MMZ. The Mogilev-based company and an Italian company have teamed up to implement this project using open-die forging. It is a less expensive technology, which is not used anywhere else in the Commonwealth of Independent States. The merchandise has already been certified for export to Russia. Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant buys the axles. The merchandise has also been certified for export to the European Union. There are markets over there that need these products, said Valery Fishman.

The second project is the production of high-pressure hoses at the Orsha-based factory Legmash. The manufacturing project has been implemented together with an Italian company, too, said the official. Apart from that, the implementation of mechanical engineering projects outlined by the government program on innovative development in 2016-2020 was mentioned. One of them is the production of profiled iron by building a wire-rod mill at the Zhlobin-based steel mill BMZ. Minsk Motor Plant is busy building an enterprise to make high-precision and high-durability cast iron in Stolbtsy, Minsk region. The Elektronmash factory is working to start the production of artificial mechanical heart valves with improved parameters. There are plans to commission the first startup complex of the BelGee factory this year as part of the car assembly project. (BelTA/Ukrainian metal)
