The share of Chinese rolled metal on Ukrainian market continues growing. In January-June, imports increased by 69.7% YoY, to 86.91 thousand tons.
The share of Chinese metal in overall imports increased from 9.3% in 2024 to 12.7%.
Long rolled metal showed the biggest increase – by 307.5%, to 20.68 thousand tons. Its share grew from 6.5% to 16.2%.
Ukrmetalurgprom notes a real threat to the national manufacture.
The head of the association Olexander Kalenkov says the country is able to provide the market with rebars and rolled wire, but the drastic increase in imports, in particular from Turkiye and China, destroys economic stimuli for Ukrainian manufacturers.
“Often imports benefit from cheaper resources and using raw materials from Russia, which is unfair competition,” he said.
In case the authorities do not take any protection action, the local plants will lose the domestic market. (Ukrainian metal)
