The implementation of the energy management system at Interpipe Steel allowed the company to save $5.8 million in 3 years.
“We started decreasing energy resources consumption in 6 months after the works was put into operation, back in 2013”, the company chief energy engineer Vladimir Galimbievsky said.
One of the measures taken was to plan the operation of the works during the periods of the low price of electricity and halting the works when the price was the highest. This allowed the company to save $300 thousand in 2015 and $2.1 million in 2016.
Another measure was to plan the operation of the steam generator that consumed natural gas. The generator worked all the time and sometimes used steam (and gas) to no purpose. Thanks to a small modernization of the machinery the pump now turns off when the break between the working cycles exceeds 1 hour. Thus in 2015 Interpipe Steel was able to save $150 thousand.
