Ukrainian metal companies have been suffering from scrap shortages for five months in a row.

According to Interpipe, steelmakers haven’t received 57 thousand tons of scrap, or 15% of the needs.

In May metal companies needed 384 thousand tons of scrap, while actual supplies totaled 326 thousand tons. The main reason for the scrap deficiency is its exports. In May Ukraine exported 104 thousand tons of scrap, with 509 thousand tons from the beginning of the year.

Scrap shortages have resulted in a number of halts. In May Interpipe had 9 days of dead time, or 30 days in January-May. (Ukrainian metal)
