Ukraine: metal output down in January-May 2015

Once the single largest source of hard currency, accounting for 38% of Ukraine’s export revenues in 2011, steel, iron ore and other metal exports have plummeted 24.5% since Russia’s war on Ukraine began last year.
For the Ukrainian steel industry 2014 was the worst in the last 15 years, worldsteel data shows.
In April Ukraine produced 1.02 million tons of ferrous rolled metal, down by 41.4% YoY and 19.3% MoM. In January-April Ukraine produced 3.71 million tons of ferrous rolled metal.
Metallurgprom expects steel output in June on the level of 2.2 million tons, with pig iron at 2 million and rolled metal at 1.8 million tons.
Metal companies in Ukraine will boost steel smelting by 15.8% in June compared to expected production in May, to 2.2 million tons, and steel roll production will grow by 12.5%, to 1.8 million tons.
In January-April Ukrainian companies produced 7.08 million tons of carbon steel, down by 29.7% YoY.
In March Ukraine produced 1696 thousand tons of steel, up by 6.8%, or by 108 thousand tons, MoM.
