At present, ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih is operating with the capacity of 20%.
Metal output dropped by 20%.
“The life continues testing us. There is war not only on the field of battle. Every day, every hour the enemy tries to destroy peaceful cities and towns all over Ukraine, deprive people of heating, light and normal life, attacks critical infrastructure. A recent blackout and the missile strike of the aggressor country on our enterprise, killing our employee, is another confirmation of this. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that they (blackout and strikes) were the last,” the company CEO Mauro Longobardo has said.
The mining department is operating at 20-25% of its capacity, while the metal department plans to launch the blast furnace No. 6 soon to reach steel output of 20-25%.
With full loading, the enterprise consumes 400-450 MW, and with 20-25% consumption totals 100-120 MW. After the blackout the company received only 60 MW.
“We have started consuming our raw materials stocks. At one time we had a stock of iron ore concentrate only for 5 days. If we cannot receive100 MW, we have to launch machinery one after another. That’s what we did. The blast furnace was suspended for 7 days. Now the market situation is improving, but due to the shortage of electricity we have to choose: either to make sinter stocks or to launch another blast furnace,” Longobardo said. (Ukrainian metal)
