The Verkhovna Rada Committee on the integration of Ukraine into the European Union has approved of the bill No. 5175, which suggests prolonging the export duty on scrap in the amount of 58 euros per ton for 5 more years.

The committee members have recommended the Committee on the Economic Development together with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Agriculture to consult with the main countries-trade partners on the issue.

According to a co-author of the bill Dmitriy Kiselevskiy, with the help of the duty it was possible to overcome the catastrophic shortage of scrap, and in 2020 it reached almost zero.

Before the duty was implemented, scrap was exported to Turkey and Pridnestroviye, which had an unfriendly policy towards Ukrainian metal industry. (Ukrainian metal)
