The acting chairman of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) government Andrei Tarasenko has held a meeting on the gold-extracting industry situation.

According to the industry participants, the situation is positive. At the same time, there are some difficulties connected with limitations due to the coronavirus pandemic and in some cases with low reserves and capacities.

Yakutia is the third largest gold producer in Russia, with 36.5 tons yielded in 2019. It is planned to increase output to 38 tons this year.

At present gold is sent for refining outside the republic, as only 11 organizations defined by the state have the right to refine gold in Russia.

“Thus, taxes for refining go to the budgets of other regions. So we intend to start refining gold and produce ingots on our territory”, Tarasenko said.

The creation of a refining plant will allow processing raw materials on the territory of the republic and help the jewelry industry, as the enterprises will not have to pay for the ingot delivery from outside, while the region will have its own ingot grade. (Ukrainian metal)
