ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih, the biggest mining and metallurgical plant in Ukraine, reports on the results of production in January-June.
In particular, the company produced 2.4 million tons of steel, 2.5 million tons of pig iron and 2.2 million tons of rolled metal, all down from 2.6 million tons, 2.6 million tons and 2.3 million tons in H1 2019 respectively.
Mauro Longobardo, CEO, ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih, said: “Despite the fact that in H1 work of each of us was significantly complicated due to quarantine restrictions, the company still managed to maintain production volumes at acceptable level. In general, manufacture of the main types of products was at the level of 90-95% of the planned indicators. At the beginning of Q2, the level of production fell to 80%, but later we managed to reach above 90%. At the same time, in the first half of this year, we carried out repairs of Blast Furnace No. 9 and one sintering machine of the second sinter shop (including the reconstruction of gas cleaning unit). We have also completed the repairs of the furnace of wire rod mill 150-1 and the boiler No. 4 of HHP No. 2. This year, due to the introduction of quarantine in the country, we had to change the scheme of planned repairs and the stages of modernization program at the plant. However, we have clearly and timely defined the strategy for the coming months, optimizing production processes and personnel work. We intend to gradually implement the company’s sustainable development strategy for the next five years. All initiatives to complete environmental projects will also be implemented – this is a priority task”. (AMKR/Ukrainian metal)
