The volume of transportation of mining and metallurgical cargo via the Dnepr River could grow 2-fold, to 2.5 million tons.

But so far the depth of the river does not correspond to the sizes of ships necessary to transport such cargo.

At present the ships with the capacity of 6 thousand tons are operating at the river. In order to increase river transportation, the Dnepr has to be able to handle ships with the capacity of 15 thousand tons.

This year metal companies are expected to transport 350 thousand tons more, up by 26% YoY.

But at present metal transportation by river decreases. While in 2016 it accounted for 16% of all transportation, in 2018 it dropped to 13%. (Ukrainian metal)
