Ukraine can easily solve the problem of Crimean Titanium and the environment catastrophe, which the Russian occupants have created in the town of Armyansk. For this the plant has to stop operation.
“The only raw material that the company needs is ilmenite. The ore containing titanium is mined in Ukraine, and then from Odessa is transported via the Turkish ports of Samsun either to the Russian port of Kavkaz or to the occupied Kerch. Then the ilmenite is taken via railroad to Crimean Titanium. If the flow is stopped, the works will halt and all the problems will be solved”, the people’s deputy Ivan Vinnik believes.
The government has to make amendments to the Cabinet of Ministers decrees of 2003 and 2004, which set a list of goods subject to export control. That’s mostly military or dual-use goods. Ilmenite is not on the list, which creates the threat to the national security of Ukraine.
If ilmenite is made an object of export control, the export licenses will most likely not be given. It is also impossible to bring ilmenite to Crimean Titanium from Norway, India or China. Thus, the works will shut down, the flow of funds to the occupants’ budget will stop and the environment problems will disappear, Vinnik says. (Ukrainian metal)
