The government may buy Oleg Deripaska’s stake in Russian aluminum giant UC RUSAL, but the issue has not been discussed yet, Industry and Trade Denis Manturov declared on April 24.

“This is not ruled out but there has been no thematic discussion of the issue yet,” he said, when asked whether the company could be temporarily transferred under the government’s control or a state bank could buy Deripaska’s stake.

On April 23 the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said that the sanctions against RUSAL might be lifted if Deripaska, who owns 48.13% in RUSAL, ceded the control. (Prime/Ukrainian metal)
