It is necessary to introduce the state of emergency in the energy sector if anthracite coal supplies are not resumed in the near future, Ukrenergo Acting CEO Vsevolod Kovalchuk has stated this at a meeting of the anti-crisis energy staff.
“There are 842 thousand tons of anthracite coal reserves in the storage facilities of all thermal power plants. It is enough for 40 days on average. As different plants have different reserves, they will be working from 14 days to 100 days. An average consumption of anthracite coal is 30 thousand tons. It will be necessary to introduce the state of emergency in the energy sector if deliveries are not resumed in the coming days,” Kovalchuk said.
According to him, the state of emergency would enable the country to reduce anthracite coal consumption to 20 thousand tons per day.
“Anyways, Ukraine’s energy system cannot do without the power plants operating on anthracite coal,” Kovalchuk stressed, adding that Ukrenergo would have to make a schedule for rolling blackouts after using the available coal reserves. (Ukrinform/Ukrainian metal)
