Metinvest is studying the possibility to buy new cargo cars because of the crisis situation on the railroad transportation market.
“Now it’s possible to use private cars. There are no problems with buying cars at present. Ferrexpo buys them, we’re also looking into it”, Metinvest CEO Yuri Ryzhenkov said.
According to him, Metinvest has some 1 thousand cars leased from Lemtrans.
“Historically we had our own cars, Metinvest Shipping has its own cars”, he added.
Ryzhenkov believes that the current situation on the railroad transportation market of Ukraine is critical. On one hand, Ukraine has stopped using Russian cars, on the other its own cars number is dwindling.
“The state has to interfere and give guarantees for car construction, or state bank loans for leasing. The Ministry of economical development and trade and Ukrzaliznytsia should look into it. But ideally, railroad cars should be a private initiative”, he said. (Ukrainian metal)
