Miners together with sappers have blown up a mineshaft in Pokrovsk so that Russian occupiers don’t attack the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the rear.
According to the New York Times, in early December 2024 due to the danger of using the mineshaft No. 3, miners started using another shaft to the west to get to it. They used the 10-km underground path to get there and returned with extracted coal on conveyer belt.
“The situation deteriorated in the middle of December 2024, when the Russian troops came close to the mineshaft No. 3. Fearing that the enemy could get behind the Ukrainian defence lines, the miners together with sappers planted explosive and blew them on December 20, 2024,” the paper said. (Ukrainian metal)
