The new antidumping investigation by the European Commission as regards Ukrainian manufacturers of hot-rolled metal could result in Ukraine losing the market valued at $700 million a year.
According to the head of the Verkhovnaya Rada industrial policy committee Victor Halasyuk, that’s 2% of Ukraine’s exports.
“This will not only weaken the competitive positions of Ukrainian industry, but will also threaten the UAH rate and price stability”, he said. This position defies the previously declared intentions of the EU to help Ukraine revive its economy.
“When you want to help, you don’t take away the fishing road to give some fish instead”, he said.
Halasyuk has called on the Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman to intervene and do everything he can to protect the local metal industry, which provides 25% of the Ukrainian output and employs over 250 thousand Ukrainians. (Ukrainian metal)
