At present Ukrzaliznytsia cannot transport cargo for mining-metallurgical complex of Ukraine in full due to the lack of cars and trains, as well as weak purchases of fuel and spare parts.
“This is mostly our fault. We can’t satisfy the needs of our clients”, said the state enterprise head Wojciech Balczun.
According to him, Ukraine has some 62 thousand railroad cars, and lacks around 2-3 thousand cars a day. So with the EBRR credit Ukrazliznytsia plans to buy 3 thousand cars.
In January-June Ukrainian metal companies smelted 12.5 million tons of steel, up by 11% YoY. But it could have been higher had it not been because of Ukrzaliznytsia. Because of the transportation priority change (from metal to agricultural products), metal companies started feeling the need for more raw materials and had to decrease output (even up to 50%).
