Metinvest has to spend over $300 million to make its mining and processing works correspond to the European standards.
“Some pollutions at our companies are already within the European norms, so we can only welcome the implementation of the European environmental standards in Ukraine. But it’s a long way, we have just passed a small portion of it, and to complete the modernization of GOKs we have to invest more than $300 million”, said the Central Mining and Processing Works CEO Dmitry Shevchik.
For the past 5 years Metinvest has invested over 4 billion UAH into modern environmental practices and technologies.
“But taking into account the market situation with raw materials prices down to lowest indexes in 10 years, we believe it’s an impossible mission for the mining industry. Our products could lose competitiveness on the world market if we consider the time of their implementation”, he added. (Ukrainian metal)
