Mr. Alexander Kirichko, general director of the Ukrainian steel pipe and railway wheel producer Interpipe, has presented the company’s new electric steel smelting complex, Interpipe Steel.
The Interpipe Steel project was presented during a meeting of the Regional Committee on Economic Reforms that was held in Dnepropetrovsk on 12 October. Interpipe Steel remains the largest investment project of the company and one of the most important in the region. Once complete the new electric steel furnace will give the company self-sufficiency in steel.
During the meeting, Mr. Alexander Kirichko gave a presentation about the main features of the new electric steel smelting complex as well as its socio-economic aspects.
Mr. Alexander Kirichko said “The new mill, Interpipe Steel, is one of the largest investment projects since Ukrainian independence. As part of the framework for the project, a number of facilities will be put into operation to make the mill function. For the first time in Ukraine, a unique cable line for electricity transmission with a voltage of 330 kilowatts has been built, which will minimize the impact made on people and the environment. In addition, a new substation, ‘Pachnaya’ is being constructed as well as new lime and oxygen mills. A radical modernization of the Dnepropetrovsky Vtormet, JSC has also started. All the new facilities will be equipped with high-tech, modern equipment from leading world industries.”
According to the conclusion of the Regional Committee on Economic Reforms, Mr. Viktor Yanukovich gave instructions to the relevant government departments to assist with the construction of the smelting complex and gave an urgent order to affirm documentation for the project. (SteelGuru)
