Metinvest Group’s Zaporizhstal plant continues to fund a program to support employees whose homes were damaged as a result of hostilities. Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, the plant has allocated over 5.5 million hryvnias to help employees.
In wartime, the housing stock of front-line Zaporizhzhia is suffering significant damage. According to local authorities, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 1,300 apartment buildings and more than 2,600 private homes have been damaged and destroyed in the city. The degree of destruction varies – from broken windows and damaged roofs to completely destroyed housing, which emphasizes the relevance and social significance of housing restoration programs. At the initiative of Metinvest Group, a program to support employees whose homes were damaged by enemy shelling has been in operation in Zaporizhzhia since the beginning of the full-scale war.
“A home is more than walls and a roof: it is a place of strength, restoration, and inner support. Therefore, for us, supporting our employees whose homes were damaged by shelling is not only material assistance, but also a way to help people regain a sense of security and the energy to move on. Currently, 235 Zaporizhstal workers have received material assistance to restore their homes, and this program will continue as long as there is a need for it,” said Acting General Director of Zaporizhstal, Metinvest Group, Hero of Ukraine Taras Shevchenko.
At the initial stage of the program’s implementation, since 2022, Zaporizhstal’s emergency repair teams have ensured the prompt restoration of the most critical elements of damaged housing – in particular, they dismantled destroyed structures and installed temporary overlaps for window and door blocks. Later, the program was transformed into a targeted financial support format, which allows for a more flexible and effective response to the needs of employees depending on the state of damage to their homes. The support program applies to employees of all Metinvest Group enterprises in Zaporizhzhia – Zaporizhstal, Zaporizhkoks, Zaporizhvognetriva and Metinvest Machinery (formerly known as ZLMZ).
