Ukraine started increasing steel output and in January it grew almost 2-fold. But further growth is hampered not only by logistics, but also by the scrap shortage, that Ukrzaliznytsia could cover.
This year, scrap procurement is expected to decrease due to the mined territories and mobilization. State monopolies, which constantly write off outdated equipment, could cover this shortage. The largest of them is Ukrzaliznytsia.
In 2022, the company sold 113 thousand tons of scrap for 670 million UAH and in 2023 – 76 thousand tons for 460 million UAH. Last auctions were held in early September 2023. (Ukrainian metal)
