Kazakhstan has imposed a ban on the export of ferrous metals scrap and wastes via the railroad border points of Zhaisan (Aktyubinsk region), Aksu (Kostanay region) and Auyl (Abai region).

The decision was taken due to the shortage of raw materials for the domestic processing enterprises and the imposition by neighbouring countries of scrap exports ban.

In 2023, Kazakhstan procured 1.9 million tons of scrap with the domestic market needs estimated at 3.9 million tons. Thus, capacities were loaded at 35% only. (Ukrainian metal)
