Russian troops have already destroyed several hundred fakes – precise replicas of the newest American and European weapons.
“Ukraine actively replaces howitzers, tanks, mortars and radars with dummies to force Russians waste their drones, missiles and shells,” CNN reports.
Fakes are made by Metinvest.
“After each hit, our military bring us the remnants. If the fake was destroyed, then we had not worked in vain,” a company representative said. “War is expensive. And we need Russians to waste their money on drones and missiles to destroy our baits.”
Thus, many NATO countries use the M777 155mm howitzers, which is also fighting in Ukraine and costs $4 million. Metinvest makes its fake out of ordinary sewer pipes for $1 thousand.
