Metinvest intends to increase slabs manufacture at Zaporizhstal to 60-80 thousand tons.
“Since the start of the year the company has already sold around 25 thousand tons of slabs. In May, we produced 6 thousand tons for our Italian assets. And we intend to increase output to 60-80 thousand tons,” Metinvest operational director Olexander Myronenko has said.
The products have already passed the first certification stage – the welding test.
“Now we expect a Bureau Veritas certificate. The next step is Lloyd’s Register. As soon as we obtain their certificate, we will have a normal shipbuilding steel manufacture. What we will not be able to provide with the help of Zaporizhstal, we will buy on the market,” he added.
According to him, with normal loading Italian plants of Metinvest buy around 130-140 thousand tons of slabs. Thus, Metinvest intends to increase the share of Zaporizhstal slabs at its Italian rolling plants to 50%.
At the same time, Myronenko added that the rolling plant Spartan in the UK would not receive slabs from Zaporizhstal, as there were local manufacturers nearby with more efficient logistics. (Ukrainian metal)
