Ukrainian metal companies were unable to increase exports to the USA despite the cancellation of an additional duty of 25% on steel from June 1, 2022.
“We mostly supply pig iron there. That’s because of a number of antidumping duties imposed in late 1990s and early 2000s, when Ukraine had no status of a country with market economy,” Ukrmetallurgprom president Olexander Kalenkov has said.
But the cancellation of duties is blocked by a technical difficulty.
“The thing is that to cancel the duty, it is necessary to prove that you work normally and cleanly, at the same time, it is almost impossible to do due to very high duty rates, that on some items reach hundreds of percent,” he added.
“Thus, now the problem could be solved only by canceling the ideologically outdated duties, and only after that will we be able to considerably increase exports to the American market,” Kalenkov stressed. (Ukrainian metal)
