Unblocking seaports for metal and mining products would allow increasing scrap procurement in Ukraine.
“If we forecast steel output on the level of 6 million tons, the procurement would amount to 900-950 thousand tons. Our main customer is the domestic market. Intrepipe and Kametstal have suspended scrap purchases. So this procurement forecast is quite realistic. Unless the seaports are unblocked for metal products. Then scrap market will follow manufacture, which will undoubtedly grow,” UAVtormet Association president Volodymyr Bublei has said.
According to the association, last year Ukraine procured 997 thousand tons of scrap, down by 76% YoY. At the same time, steel manufacture dropped by over 70%, to 6.263 million tons. (Ukrainian metal)
