Ukrmetallurgprom has asked the Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to temporarily prohibit the export of scrap.
The association letter says the revival of the economy has resulted in a sharp increase of raw materials prices, including ferrous scrap. In a year, the price of scrap grew almost 2-fold, from $265 per ton to $468 per ton. That’s the highest price in 10 years.
The situation led to the increase of scrap exports from Ukraine. Thus, in January-May, exports grew almost 9-fold, from 17 thousand tons to 143 thousand tons. If exports continue, they could exceed 1.5 million tons until the end of the year, or half of scrap procurement in 2020. (Ukrainian metal)
