The World Bank intends to support the mitigation of social and environmental impacts of the coal industry restructuring in Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection.
“The World Bank, with the support of the European Commission and other international financial institutions, intends to support the mitigation of social and environmental impacts as part of the coal industry restructuring and transiting to a green economy, as well as the social and economic conversion of coal regions,” reads the statement.
The issues of interaction between central executive authorities, local authorities, communities and international institutions during the planning and implementing of the conversion of coal regions were discussed at a technical meeting of the Energy Ministry, which was attended by representatives of the World Bank and the European Commission.
