Magnitogorsk metal ware and calibration plant MMK-Metiz (a part of the ММК Group) is implementing a large-scale investment program to develop new types of metal products and modernize existing facilities. The estimated CAPEX exceeds 2.5 billion rubles.

The modernization is planned for 2017-2019 and is aimed at strengthening the company’s position as a leading supplier to metal-intensive sectors of the Russian economy. Several major projects are currently underway.

In particular, in 2017-2018 MMK-Metiz commissioned production facilities to allow the company to expand the quality and range of its fasteners. The new Taiwanese machines produce fasteners in line with DIN М6-М12 standards, which are used in machinery, instrumentation and the construction industry. The new facilities also include a production complex to manufacture large fasteners. The facilities include a German hardening and tempering machine for producing high-tensile М6-М30 fasteners and a Russian galvanizing line for М12-М36 fasteners. The commissioning of this equipment has contributed to an improvement in the quality of the heat treatment of the fasteners and expanded the range through the production of high-diameter galvanized fasteners. Total investment in the project exceeded 400 million rubles.

In addition, in 2018 a new 1,200-ton production complex for self-drilling screws will be commissioned. Some of the equipment is already in operation. Following the commissioning of a chemical and thermal treatment line and phosphating line, the new production complex will allow the company to increase its production volume of import-substituting self-drilling screws.

Another major investment project at MMK-Metiz is a 43,000-ton production complex for high-carbon wire and steel-wire rope, with an investment of over 1.5 billion rubles. The first stage of the complex was commissioned in July, and the project is expected to be completed in Q1 2019. The commissioning of this complex will allow the company to significantly improve the quality and range of its products. The production of galvanized cables will be expanded following the commissioning of a new galvanizing unit produced by FIB.

In addition, in 2019 MMK-Metiz plans to commission a new production complex for bales and rod-shaped gauged bars. The new complex will comprise of two 36,000-ton high-performance automated lines. Its commissioning will allow the company to significantly increase MMK-Metiz’s production capacities. The total value of investment in the project is estimated at more than 600 million rubles.
