Azovstal Iron and Steel Works, a part of Metinvest, is forced to shut down its converter No. 2 from June 26 for essential repairs.

The company has to make this move under pressure form environment activists, who claim the converter is seriously damaging the city of Mariupol air.

At present Azovstal converters make 22 steel smeltings a day each.

The company representatives also confirmed that the by-product coke air pollution exceeded the permitted amounts. (Ukrainian metal)
