Beloretsk Iron and Steel Works has successfully tested a new type of excavator steel rope with polymer coating.

The tests have been carried out under the project to produce multi-strand steel ropes (8-12 strands) with the diameter of up to 90 mm, including with polymer coating.

These ropes will replace imported analogues in mining, oil and gas, bridge and ship construction machinery.

The polymer-coated ropes have been under operation at the Pugachevsky limestone quarry for over 5 months. They were used in the temperature range from minus 38 to plus 5 degrees C.

In 169 days an excavator, equipped with the new ropes, loaded 267 thousand tons of limestone, up by 37% as compared to using ordinary ropes without polymer coating. (Ukrainian metal)
