The mining of lead and zinc ores at the Pavlovskoye deposits in Novaya Zemlya is expected to begin in 2023.

According to the Arkhangelsk region governor Igor Orlov, prospecting in the area was completed in 2017.

The State commission on natural resources believes that the reserves of the Novaya Zemlya are over 47 million tons of ore, including 2.48 million tons of zinc, 549 thousand tons of lead and 1194 tons of silver.

The construction of a mining and processing works will start in 2020.

The Pavlovskoye deposits are the 5th in Russia on lead and zinc reserves. It was discovered in 2001.

The average annual output of zinc concentrate is expected to amount to 220 thousand tons, lead concentrate – 50 thousand tons and silver – 16 tons. The works will be operating for 12 year. Investments are estimated at 37.5 billion rubles. (Ukrainian metal)
